Voices In My Ear
I woke at 4:30 which is getting to be a habit lately. One that sucks. I turned up the heat; turned on the Keurig; looked out the door to see if the snow had indeed found us; closed the door knowing I had no need for a carrot for the snowman’s nose; I opened all the window blinds in anticipation of the morning light; and I turned on the music for, unbeknownst to me at that moment, it was to be a music day. So, as the blackness of the late night slowly turned into gray dawn, I have had various voices singing in my ear. Music days are a major distraction and I will shake out of it soon unless I decide to write – then the music helps steer me sometimes although the currents it creates are sometimes not navigable. Lord, Lord, I love music days; Lord, Lord, I hate music days.
Music comes to me on Spotify. When I need to smile (like on a music day), I merely have to look at the titles I have given to my various playlists.

- My Hot Ones For Now
- Songs I’ll Never Sing Again
- Things Time Won’t Heal
- Where Are You Songs
- A Drink In One Hand; A Pen In the Other Songs
- Hallelujah by Everyone Who Can Sing
- Oh, My God, It’s Willie
- Surprising Voices That Touched Me
- Long Nights With Tom Waits
- Just Kill Me Now Songs
Time to fight my way out of the currents the music has generated.
